MEMORIAL DAY PREPARATIONS

Memorial Day is fast approaching and we have been getting ready for the celebration, when we raise around 170 large flags in the Frontenac City Cemetery and Mt.Carmel Catholic Cemetery. Frank Grilz is our main flag guy, spending many hours making sure the poles are clean and in good repair. The flagpoles are inserted into pipes buried in the ground along the route, and must be cleaned out and often repaired. Here Frank and his grandson Luke Amershek stop for a picture as they finish up their work.

FHS STUDENTS REPLACE ROOF ON POST 43

Students, under the guidance of FHS 249 teachers ripped off the old roof and put a brand new roof on John F. Derby Post 43 American Legion Hall in Frontenac Kansas on Wednesday, May 4, 2011. The principal of USD 249, Joe Martin, said this would help repay Post 43 for all the things the post does for the school.

Special thanks go to past commander Marc McCulley for ramrodding the project. And also a special thanks to Kelly Fields, USD249 Trades teacher, and Bruce Blair, USD249 Biology teacher. Thank you all so much.

Tearing off the old roof!
