MEMORIAL DAY PREPARATIONS

Memorial Day is fast approaching and we have been getting ready for the celebration, when we raise around 170 large flags in the Frontenac City Cemetery and Mt.Carmel Catholic Cemetery. Frank Grilz is our main flag guy, spending many hours making sure the poles are clean and in good repair. The flagpoles are inserted into pipes buried in the ground along the route, and must be cleaned out and often repaired. Here Frank and his grandson Luke Amershek stop for a picture as they finish up their work.

FHS STUDENTS REPLACE ROOF ON POST 43

Students, under the guidance of FHS 249 teachers ripped off the old roof and put a brand new roof on John F. Derby Post 43 American Legion Hall in Frontenac Kansas on Wednesday, May 4, 2011. The principal of USD 249, Joe Martin, said this would help repay Post 43 for all the things the post does for the school.

Special thanks go to past commander Marc McCulley for ramrodding the project. And also a special thanks to Kelly Fields, USD249 Trades teacher, and Bruce Blair, USD249 Biology teacher. Thank you all so much.

MEMORIAL DAY

Well, it won't be long before Memorial Day is upon us. Once again Post 43 will be placing flags at the graves of the veterans in both the City Cemetery and Mt.Carmel Catholic Cemetery. We will be placing the large flags along the cemetery roads. Over 120 of these large flags, each on honoring a veteran and bearing the name of the veteran. These large flags and flagpoles were purchased by someone wanting to do something to honor the veterans.

Here are some pictures from the 2005 ceremony:

POST 43 OFFICERS ATTEND INSTALLATION

Two officers of POST 43 attended the installation of Post 182 newly-elected officers March 17, 2011 at Amra's Post Hall. The installation was conducted by Girard Post 26 officers in an inspiring ceremony. Herb Wolfington (Adjutant) and Don Morey (Commander) both felt that the experience was very worthwhile, and recommend that more Post 43 members attend an installation. Girard Post 26 will be holding their installation April 7th. Eric Post 102 officers will be installed April 21st. Pittsburg Post 64 officers will be installed May 2nd.

BOY'S STATE - GIRL'S STATE

Post 43 has sponsored 4 boys to American Legion Boy's State for 2011 and the Post 43 Auxiliary has sponsored 6 (that's right 6) girls to GIRL'S STATE for 2011. This is a wonderful program and the post is happy to be able to provide this support to the students of USD249 Frontenac.
